The SCC is committed to recycling and has divided bins throughout the building for trash, paper, and aluminum/plastics/glass. Pitch in the right way! Remember: Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for 4 hours! (Eco-cycle)

Did you know that plastic can take up to 500 years or more to decompose? There is a “plastic continent” bigger than Texas in the Pacific Ocean… and that Styrofoam lasts… years?
Through the support of a Jewish Greening Fellowship Alumni Grant, the SCC along with SolarOne, Barkai and the Sephardic Shul, initiated the Sephardic Community Sustainable Product Purchasing Club to replace foam and plastic plates and cups with environmentally sustainable products. Choose environmentally sustainable products rather than Styrofoam and throw-away plastics.

Did you notice the new water cooler on the 4th floor? Instead of using throw-away cups and bottles, we encourage you to substitute reusable bottles and cups. Also, the water in the SCC fountains has been tested and we are assured that our water is safe to drink. For just $1, purchase the SCC re-usable water bottle in the Fitness Center and by the front desk. Help keep our environment safe for our children, our children’s children, and future generations to come!

The SCC has an active garden program. Our raised bed garden is dormant for the winter with bulbs buried in the earth, but in the spring, watch for the flowering daffodils and tulips. In the summer, members and passersby enjoy the herbs, vegetables and flowers. Our monthly Garden Club for adults is open to experienced gardeners and those who want to grow “green thumbs.” Our new rooftop garden was created for our youngest children this past summer. More than 600 summer campers learned about nature and the environment over the last 3 summers.
